PLA regranulated from post-industrial waste; Prusa's own testing shows mechanical parity with virgin PLA, while colour range and diameter tolerance are the practical limits.

Applications

Recycled PLA serves ordinary PLA applications when the feedstock’s recovered content matters more than a precisely controlled color. Prusament’s recycled PLA is made from manufacturing scrap and has published mechanical results close to the corresponding virgin material. That makes recycled feedstock a credible choice for repeated models and prototypes rather than merely a decorative novelty.

The useful distinction is the actual producer’s consistency: diameter tolerance, contamination control, color and documented properties matter more than the word “recycled” by itself. It remains PLA, with limited heat resistance and brittle failure behavior. Recycled content is a meaningful purchasing attribute, but it does not by itself establish the environmental impact of an entire printed part or its disposal route.

How to read these values

Values describe representative grades, not every spool. Manufacturer datasheets and independent tests retain their source labels and dates. Printed orientation, test method, conditioning and formulation can change results. Unknown values are —. A listed use is not a certification. Shore A, Shore D and Rockwell hardness are separate scales.
