ABS with the butadiene rubber swapped for an acrylate that has no UV-vulnerable double bonds: after 1000 h of QUV exposure Stratasys measured yield strength falling only from 30.5 to 30.3 MPa. It warps and emits styrene like ABS.

Applications

ASA is an outdoor engineering polymer: its weather-resistant rubber phase helps exposed parts retain color and useful mechanical properties. That makes outdoor housings, signage and exterior fittings natural applications. Industrial use extends beyond printing: INEOS describes Luran S ASA as a weather-resistant capstock for PVC siding, soffits and roofing, where the surface layer protects the underlying structure from sunlight and fading.

These co-extruded products demonstrate the polymer family’s weathering niche, not the strength of a particular printed spool. FDM ASA still warps and develops cooling stress, and layer direction matters for loaded brackets. Its UV durability does not make a housing automatically waterproof, and strong solvents such as acetone attack the matrix.

  • PVC siding with ASA capstock ↗

    Other — co-extrusion · INEOS Luran S ASA family over PVC · Manufacturer-listed applications

INEOS reports that siding manufacturers use Luran S ASA over a PVC substrate to improve weatherability, particularly for darker colors. This is an industrial surface-layer application, not a 3D-printed wall panel.

  • Roofing and soffit capstock ↗

    Other — co-extrusion · INEOS Luran S ASA family over PVC · Manufacturer-listed applications

INEOS lists Luran S over PVC roofing and foam soffits for UV resistance and color retention. The ASA supplies the weather-resistant surface while the substrate provides the broader product structure.

How to read these values

Values describe representative grades, not every spool. Manufacturer datasheets and independent tests retain their source labels and dates. Printed orientation, test method, conditioning and formulation can change results. Unknown values are —. A listed use is not a certification. Shore A, Shore D and Rockwell hardness are separate scales.
