Semi-crystalline, melting at 280-283 °C, UL 94 V-0 and resistant to essentially every solvent below 200 °C. Unusually ductile for this class at 18 % printed elongation, and the one high-temperature polymer both its suppliers rate explicitly for creep.
PPS is used in chemically resistant and dimensionally demanding components. A specific unfilled example is Ensinger's TECATRON CMP retaining rings for semiconductor-wafer polishing: a controlled stock formulation and machining route are used because wear behavior, impurities and internal stress affect polishing defects. The material is selected for a measured process result, not simply for a high melting point.
The wider PPS family is also used in injection-molded connectors, sockets, coil bobbins and relay or switch housings, combining thermal capability, electrical performance and chemical resistance. Many use reinforced Ryton compounds rather than unfilled PPS. For printed components, crystallinity and thermal history strongly affect behavior, and printed heat deflection can be much lower than stock data suggests. Match the formulation and process to the actual sustained load and exposure instead of using melting point as the working-temperature limit.
